Tayside Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime
One of the recommendations made to the Scottish Government in the thematic review of wildlife crime, Natural Justice, was that within each police force area in Scotland a local partnership for action against wildlife crime be set up and report to PAW Scotland. The format of the groups was suggested as a core group who take the main decisions on aims and objectives, backed by a wider ring of associated groups who can be called on when necessary for specialist advice or assistance.
In the late spring of 2010 such a group was set up in Tayside under the chairmanship of Superintendent Ewen West, deputy divisional commander at Forfar and also force lead officer on wildlife crime issues. It was launched by the Environment Minister on 11 August, the launch appropriately taking place at Scottish Wildlife Trust’s reserve at Montrose Basin.
