The town of Arbroath is the largest and busiest policing section in Eastern Division of Tayside Police with a population of approximately 25,500. It encompasses several villages within the beat area including Auchmithie, Arbirlot, Colliston, Marywell and Inverkeillor. The larger village of Friockheim is also within the Arbroath beat boundary although it has its own local police office. Arbroath Police office is situated in Gravesend, Arbroath in close proximity to the town centre and the main pedestrian precinct of the High Street.

There is also a new Tourist Centre within the harbour area, which has brought new restaurants and businesses to the town. The harbour itself has recently undergone a major refurbishment with the installation of berthing pontoons catering for numerous private craft.

Many visitors are attracted to the town for its historical features. These include the Abbey which, for a short time, was the home of the Stone of Destiny and which now has a new, million pound visitor centre opened in the year 2000; the harbour, once a busy fishing port, with the Signal Tower museum nearby. It has a varied coastline with picturesque sandstone cliffs to the north and the West Links and golf course to the south. The West Links offers several activities including a play park, tennis courts, pitch and putt and miniature railway, providing entertainment for young and old alike. |
