The Community Safety Unit has many functions : Public Space CCTV and Mobile CCTV Unit The CCTV monitoring suite, based at Divisional Police Headquarters, Forfar is staffed by 8 operators working a shift pattern. From this location 53 cameras, sited in the seven main Angus towns, can be monitored. A review officer is also located in the suite and carries out reviews of recorded incidents to seek evidential footage. 
CCTV Control Room The primary aim of the CCTV system is to assist in providing a safe environment for all members of the community. It is also invaluable in the prevention and detection of crimes and anti-social behaviour. A Mobile CCTV Unit is deployed throughout the division in response to anti-social behaviour, emerging problems and in the detection of crime and improving public safety. School Liaison Officers The role of School Liaison Officer is fairly new to Tayside having been successfully piloted in Angus. A programme of education is delivered to the 68 schools in Angus, ranging from nursery through to 6th year secondary pupils and students at Angus College. The programme is designed to be compatible with the personal and social development area of the educational curriculum. Topics include drugs, personal safety and anti-social behaviour. By providing a positive police contact for young people, the aim is to build mutual respect as well as providing valuable safety information. This will assist young people to act in a responsible manner and engage positively within their communities. Both officers also take part in multi-agency partnership work in relation to the Driving Ambition programme, the Safe Angus event and the Know Your Stuff evenings. Crime Reduction Officer The Crime Reduction Officer is responsible for crime prevention and architectural liaison within the Angus area. Crime Prevention Crime prevention entails the development of preventative strategies to reduce existing and prevent further crime within Angus. This includes
Architectural Liaison Architectural liaison provides appropriate crime preventative measures in relation to the building and construction industry through the "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design" principles. (CPTED) This involves providing security advice to building users, planners, architects and the building industry to design against crime in new and existing developments, and the promotion of Secured by Design (SBD) and Park Mark, the safe car parking scheme, where appropriate. (Formerly the Secure Car Parks scheme) Road Safety Officer The divisional Road Safety Officer ensures the delivery and co-ordination of all road safety initiatives in the Division. One of the main functions of this post is carrying out cycle safety testing. This involves all local Community Liaison Officers offering training to Primary 7 children in schools. Volunteers from the community are welcome to assist in this training. Primary school children are instructed and given advice on safe routes to walk to school. Car seat checks are carried out to ensure the safety of children carried in motor vehicles. Numerous presentations are carried out, not only to children but other members and groups of the Angus communities on all aspects of road safety. Partnership Working Many of the Community Safety Unit functions are carried out in partnership with other agencies throughout Angus. Tayside Police are committed to working in partnership with others, sharing expertise and information to ensure that our communities are safe and feel safe. Sergeant Fergus Storrier is the Youth Justice co-ordinator at the multi-agency Joint Strategic Support Unit, based at Angus Council's new office facilities at Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar. In his post Sergeant Mitchell has the lead role in the planning and development of Youth Justice policies as it effects all partner agencies within the Angus Council area and to co-ordinate and implement national and local policies.
