Business Crime Seminar

26-05-2005

Perth City Centre Management, in conjunction with Tayside Police, hosted a business crime seminar at the Salutation Hotel in Perth on Wednesday 25 May.

Over 60 local business representatives, who are all members of the Perth Partnership, met in the Murray Room to hear crime prevention presentations delivered by local police officers.

Detective Constable Donald Campbell, Crime Prevention Officer for Perth and Kinross, spoke to the delegates about fraud in a retail environment including the benefits of chip and pin. Detective Constable Stephen Barr from the Tayside Police Cheque and Credit Card Unit, gave retailers information to prevent them becoming victims of credit card fraud. Donald also gave an overview of retail crime in Perth, how Tayside Police can assist businesses and how they can help themselves.

Perth City Centre Police Liaison Officers, Constables Mandy Bell and Carol Cameron, introduced themselves to the business representatives at the seminar.

Detective Constable Campbell said,

‘‘This is part of an ongoing programme by the Perth City Centre partnership to provide businesses with help on issues that affect them, their staff and overall profitability. This is the first of what we hope to be other joint inputs to the business community with this organisation.’’

Delegates were invited to ask questions at the end of the seminar and were issued with information packs containing valuable crime prevention advice.
