Tayside Police Detectives have arrested two Lithuanian men in connection with the discovery of a woman's body parts on a beach in Arbroath. The men, aged 19 and 40, were brought into custody this morning but have not been charged at this time.

The woman has today been named as 35-year-old Jolanta Bledaite of Statybininku Gatve, Alytus, Lithuania. Her father was informed of the tragic news this morning. Tayside Police will continue to liaise closely with the Lithuanian authorities and a specially trained police family liaison officer has been appointed.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McMillan, the Senior Investigating Officer, said that despite the arrests enquiries were still on-going to establish Jolanta's last known movements.

‘‘ Whilst we have two men in custody, we will be working diligently to establish the full circumstances surrounding Jolanta's death. I'd like to hear from anyone who knew Jolanta, or anyone who had either seen or talked to her recently, to get in touch with us as they may have information that is crucial to our enquiry.

‘‘ Due to the large number of Eastern European migrant workers that we are speaking to during our enquiries, we have engaged the services of a number of interpreters to assist us.

‘‘ Whilst every police officer has a role to play, we have a dedicated team of around fifty officers working full time on this enquiry. That includes uniform officers, detectives, search trained officers, and specialist members of police staff.

‘‘ Officers will be carrying out door to door enquiries in the area today, and a forensic search of the property where Jolanta was known to reside will resume this afternoon.

‘‘ This is a tragic incident involving a 35-year-old woman, a woman who came to Scotland seeking a better life.  As the Senior Investigating Officer, I am determined to make sure that justice is served not only for Jolanta, but for her family too.

‘‘ The positive response from the public has allowed us to progress quickly with this enquiry and I would encourage anyone who still has information to get in touch with us.’’

Anyone who has any information that may assist officers with their enquiries should get in touch with Tayside Police in Angus on (01307) 302200 or speak to any police officer. Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
