Arbroath Body Parts - Description of Woman Released

02-04-2008

Detectives investigating the discovery of body parts on a beach in Arbroath yesterday morning have released a description of the woman found in a bid to establish her identity.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McMillan, the Senior Investigating Officer, said,

‘‘Following the post mortem examination of the body parts I am now in a position to give a more detailed description of the woman.

‘‘The woman is believed to have been aged in her mid twenties to mid thirties, with brown eyes, brown eye brows, and shoulder length brown hair.

‘‘She had a pale complexion with light freckling over the cheeks and bridge of her nose.  There is also a distinctive depressed circular scar in the middle of her forehead, just below the hair line.

‘‘Her nails were short but appear to have been well maintained and groomed.  What is most unusual, is the fact her ears were not pierced.

‘‘We are in the process of having an artist’s impression of the woman drawn up and hope to be able to release that to you at some stage tomorrow.

‘‘If anyone recognises this description and thinks they know who it might be I would urge them to get in touch with us or speak to any police officer.  Identifying this woman is crucial in advancing our investigation.’’

A number of scientific tests will be carried out on the body parts including DNA extraction and examining the bones to try and establish a more exact age of the victim.  Officers will also be looking at dental records to see if that can shed any light on the woman’s identity.

A search of the beach was again carried out this afternoon by specialist search trained officers but no other body parts have been recovered.  The cordon, which had been in place since yesterday morning, has now been lifted.

Anyone who can identify the woman, or anyone who has any information that  may assist detectives with their enquiries, should get in touch with Tayside Police on (01307) 302200.  Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
