The Unit provides support to operational policing in Angus in a variety of areas including event planning, licensing matters, officer training, resource management and general assistance to operational officers as necessary.
Event Planning
The planning of events which require a police presence include football matches, parades, gala type events, highland games and shows. This planning is carried out by the unit which co-ordinates the various police resources required for the events as well as liaising with the event organisers to provide advice and assistance at the planning stage.
Along with the appropriate departments of Angus Council and the other emergency services, a structured approach is taken in order to ensure the safety of the public at these events. Regular meetings are held prior to the events to ensure the best advice and assistance is provided to help the organisers deal with the variety of issues involved in running a public event safely.
Licensing Matters
The Police Licensing Officer deals with the variety of licences for which Tayside Police have a watching brief. This includes liquor licences and civic licences such as window cleaners, street traders, etc. The Licensing Officer is available for advice and assistance and can be contacted on 01307 303541.
Officer Training
The Police Training officer is Constable Philip Gill. Phil provides a variety of training for the officers based in Angus including officer safety training and distance based learning support for probationary officers. In addition he co-ordinates the recruitment, administration and training of Special Constables in Angus. He also monitors the maintenance and provision of specialist equipment for operational Police Officers in Angus.
Divisional Support
The Unit also deals with the management of human and physical resources, which contribute to the overall delivery of policing in Angus, the Eastern Division of Tayside Police, ensuring that there are sufficient officers deployed 24/7. Another element of this unit's work is to oversee the administration of firearms certificate and shotgun applications and renewals for persons resident in Angus.
