The main commuting road between Arbroath and Dundee, the A92, is now a dual carriageway, making this a much safer and easier journey to and from Dundee. Many visitors are attracted to the town for its historical features. These include the Abbey, founded in 1178 and best known for its association with the Declaration of Arbroath; the harbour, once a busy fishing port; and nearby the Signal Tower museum. It has a varied coastline with picturesque sandstone cliffs to the north and the West Links and golf course to the south. The West Links offers several activities including a play park, tennis courts, pitch and putt and miniature railway, providing entertainment for young and old alike.
