If you are required to register with the police your passport will be stamped with "The holder is required at once to register with the police".
Immigration Officers will continue to have the discretion to impose a registration requirement on foreign nationals from countries not listed above where it is considered necessary to ensure compliance with the terms of their leave to enter the UK.
Students will have the opportunity to register with the police on campus at certain times during matriculation. At other times you should attend at Police Headquarters, West Bell Street, Dundee.
To register, you will need to produce:
- Your passport
- 2 recent passport sized photographs
- Your university/college offer letter with details of your studies
- Registration fee of £34 in British currency
- If an organisation or company is sponsoring your studies, you should bring a letter from the organisation to confirm this
You will then be issued with a police registration certificate that carries information about your student status and the immigration conditions of your stay in the UK. You are required by law to carry your police registration certificate with you but NOT your passport.
You must inform the police within 7 days of any change of address and of any extension of your permission to stay in Britain. The police may visit you shortly before your permission to stay expires. Don’t worry! It is only to remind you to apply for an extension if appropriate.
