Police Officer Recruitment - Police Officers and Disability

We are not currently accepting new applications for Police Officers.

Police officers are covered under the Equality Act and this means that applicants are not automatically excluded if they have a disability. Each case is dealt with on an individual basis and consideration can be made with regard to reasonable adjustments which can help an applicant to demonstrate their suitability. Some people with a disability may require no assistance or adjustments in order to demonstrate their suitability, whilst others may require alterations or adjustments that Tayside Police can be reasonably expected to do. If you are interested in applying but believe you have a condition or disability which may prevent you from becoming a police officer then you can contact our occupational health provider on 01382 730073 to discuss the matter.

We would encourage anyone who has a disability who is currently going through the process to make the condition known if there are some reasonable adjustments that can be made to assist. Applicants with conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalcia or dyspraxia for example can receive extra time during parts of the process and receive extra support through their probation and beyond in order to ensure they can perform as effectively as possible. There are also many other reasonable adjustments that can be made for a wide variety of disabilities to help applicants achieve their dream of becoming a police officer.

Please note that the Recruitment Team cannot answer any specific questions related to medical issues and these should all be directed to our occupational health provider. However if you think that a reasonable adjustment could be made during the recruitment process or probation to alleviate any problems that may arise due to a condition or disability then please let the Recruitment Team know so that we can take appropriate action.

Please don't assume that you won't be considered. If you don't ask you will never know.
