Internet Advice

The internet is a fantastic resource and a great source of advice, information and entertainment. Unfortunately it's global reach has also provided criminals with opportunities to use it as a tool for crime and abuse.

In this section of our website we have gathered together links to various websites and agencies that offer advice and guidance on safety online.

The 'Advice for Parents' page contains information from and a link to the Scottish Government's 'Chat Safer' website. This campaign aims to offer parents advice on how to help their children surf safely and monitor their web chat.

The 'Advice for Children' page links to the ThinkUKnow website which is aimed at kids and offers them advice on staying safe online. This site also has guidance on instant messaging, online games and blogging.

The 'Get Safe Online' campaign is a joint initiative between the government, police and private industry to give advice to the public and businesses on protecting themselves against internet threats including viruses, spam email, email scams, safe online banking and online privacy.

The 'Internet Watch Foundation' and the 'Virtual Global Taskforce' are organisations that aim to make the internet a safer place by combatting obscene or racist content online.
