Student Safety
Apparently students are, statistically speaking, one of the most likely groups to fall victim to crime. The Government claim that 1 student in 3 becomes the victim of a crime each year. Added to that fact, young people (aged 16 to 24 year old) are around three times more likely to be victims of crime than people in any other age groups.
The good news is that Tayside is safer than most areas when it comes to crime. While the level of student crime in the region is nowhere near that level it is true to say that students may still be vulnerable.
One of the reasons for this may be that students own more expensive consumer goods per head than the rest of the population. Added to that many students are away from home for the first time and that can take quite a bit of getting used to, especially in a new home in a new city.
