Documents and Mail

• Shred or destroy documents containing personal information, especially bank statements and financial mail.

• Redirect your post if you move house.

• If you are away from home for a period, arrange for someone you trust to collect your mail. Alternatively use the Royal Mail Keepsafe service which can store your mail for up to two months.

• If you live in shared access accommodation arrange to collect bank cards and cheque books direct from the bank.

• If you are think someone may have tried to get credit in your name you can apply for a copy of your credit file from one of the three credit reference agencies - Callcredit, Equifax or Experian

• Check bank statements as soon as they arrive.
