Alarms
There are two main types of alarms available -
- audible, which produce a loud siren when activated
- remote signalling
The following advice should be considered :
- Audible alarms rely on passers by to contact the Police in the event of a break in. Therefore audible alarms are generally not suitable for remote business premises. Alarms of this nature should be installed in accordance with BS 4737/EN 50131 for wired systems or BS 6799 for wire free systems.
- Remote signalling alarms require a monitoring company who will usually charge a fee for this service.
- Police attendance at alarm activations is governed by the ACPOS Security Systems Policy. Therefore due consideration must be given to false activations to ensure a future Police response.
- The alarm box should be fitted in a prominent position on the outside of the premises high enough to discourage tampering. It should be advertised using appropriate signage on all approaches to the building.
