Social Media Policy

Tayside Police currently uses Facebook and Twitter to raise awareness of our work in communities within the Tayside area. We invite and encourage the public to like, follow and provide feedback via our social networking sites.

Our use of these Facebook and Twitter accounts is solely for the purpose of communication. Our social media accounts are administered by police staff and are generally monitored during normal office hours. They are not routinely monitored 24/7.

Never use Facebook or Twitter for reporting a crime.

We reserve the right to remove any comments or contributions and block accounts that break the rules of the following guidelines :

  1. We ask you not to post messages that are deemed to be any of the following

    • predjudicial to court proceedings

    • abusive

    • defamatory

    • harassing

    • harmful

    • libellous

    • obscene

    • profane

    • racially offensive

    • sexually offensive

    • unlawful

  2. We ask that you do not swear.

  3. We ask that comments be civil, tasteful and relevant.

  4. We ask that you do not post content copied from elsewhere, for which you do not own the copyright.

  5. We ask that you do not post the same or similar messages more than once. We will view this as spam.

  6. We ask that you do not publicise your own, or anyone else's, personal information, such as address and telephone number.

  7. We ask that you do not advertise your own or other products or services.

  8. We ask that you do not pretend to be someone else.
