PREVENT

Tayside, like all other areas in the UK faces threats from a minority who seek to harm innocent people, create division, hatred and violence and exploit the shared values of people in Tayside.

Tayside Police attempts to reduce the risk to the public through community policing and working with partners in schools, educational institutions, community groups and local authorities. It is important to work together to challenge and undermine any ideology that encourages indiscriminate violence or criminal activity.

In Scotland the way of addressing this is by developing the UK’s counter terrorism strategy, CONTEST. It aims to reduce the risk we face from violent extremism so that people can go about their lives freely and with confidence.

"Prevent" aims to work with a wide range of partners to stop people from being drawn into violence and to respond to the ideology and threats that we all face from terrorism.

Community engagement officers can deliver a variety of workshops to partners, such as ACT NOW, WRAP and Operation Hindsight.

Much more information on "Prevent" related issues can be accessed via the Common Ground website.

For more information or advice, please contact Tayside Police's Prevent Community Engagement Officers who are able to deliver ACT NOW to community groups and educational establishments. They can also deliver training packages such as WRAP or offer advice on PREVENT, or issues related to community safety such as internet safety.

The internet offers much that is positive for education, networking and exchanging information. However, there are also risks which terrorists and criminals exploit, representing a serious risk to vulnerable people. More information can be found here :
