Appropriate Adults Tayside - Annual Reports

Appropriate Adults Tayside is a multi-agency service which was introduced as a result of guidance issued by the Scottish Office in June 1998. This guidance outlined procedures to be adopted when the police interview people with a mental disorder as victims, witnesses, suspects or as accused persons.

The role of the Appropriate Adult is to facilitate communication between the individual and the interviewing police officer. Since the service was introduced in 1999 there have been over 1,400 uses of Appropriate Adults during police interviews and procedures.
